What we are building

Baseball analysis often asks fans to compare statistics that use different scales, baselines, and definitions. PVL brings the most important parts of player evaluation onto a shared scale. The goal is not to replace detailed statistics. The goal is to make the full player easier to understand.

The underlying traits most likely to support repeatable performance.

The value a player adds within his team and role.

A complete view of overall player quality.

NTV

A neutral estimate of a player's trade value before a specific team is considered.

TTV

A team-specific trade value that accounts for fit, need, competitive window, and roster context.

How the ratings are made

PVL combines public baseball information, historical performance, player roles, contracts, team context, and original modeling. Inputs are normalized so players can be compared on a common scale. The models are reviewed and adjusted as new data arrives and as weaknesses are found.

Every rating is an estimate. A number should support a baseball discussion, not end it. Injuries, development, scouting information, roster plans, and private club evaluations can all change a player's real-world value.

Games and daily features

PVL games use baseball history and site ratings to create a new daily challenge. Game results are designed for entertainment and do not change the underlying player models.

Player Value Labs is independently operated. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Major League Baseball, any MLB club, or any player. Team names, league names, and other third-party marks belong to their respective owners.
